“The Tree of Joy is to remain lit until the end of January” There has been noticeable Island support of the recent incentive to extend external Christmas decorations until the end of January. The incentive’s purpose is to promote good health and well-being throughout the Island in these times of uncertainty and increased hardship. The Rotary Club of Guernsey has gained all the necessary permissions and approvals to extend the lighting to the Tree of Joy this year until the 31st January 2021. Rotary President, David Parish, is pleased that Rotary can be part of this community initiative which is also supported by Guernsey Mind and Dr Nicola brink. The Tree of Joy is kindly sponsored by PWC, Butterfield Bank and the Island Energy Group and thanks them also for their renewal of their Christmas Sponsorship for the next 3 years. Sponsoring the Tree provides the opportunity to spread real joy in allowing the public to sponsor gifts to many of the Island’s children whose families may have struggled to provide them throughout the festive period. Mike O’ Hara , Rotary Chair of Community Services, is very grateful of the support provided by the various parties that are involved with the erection of the Tree of Joy ranging from , Marine and General Engineers who arrange for all the necessary cranage, the States of Guernsey Environment Committee together with Parks and Gardens who have rescheduled their operations around the roundabout and the Guernsey Sea Scouts who arrange for the hoisting of the flags to the Mast. 2020 has been a very challenging period for all the Island Community and Rotary is very pleased to be able to extend some Christmas cheers this year with the extended lighting of the Tree of Joy which we hope will put “ siles on people’s faces” whenever they pass the roundabout in Town.
