Floral St Peter Port Parish Competition Presentation Evening

Mon 30 Jul 2018

On Thursday 26th July, we held a presentation evening at the Constables Offices to present certificates and trophies to all the entrants of our Parish competition. The evening was hosted by Douzenier Jacquie Robin, Chair of Floral St Peter Port Committee.

Judging had taken place during the first week of July and the judges, Peter Falla & Malcolm Cleal who judged three sections; Public Buildings, Hotels & Public Houses. Lisa Vahey & Douzenier Katina Jones who judged the Private Gardens Category and Constables Dennis Le Moignan & Jenny Tasker who judged the Banks, Shops & Commercial Premises had all been delighted with the high standard of the entries.

Approximately thirty-five people attended with twenty-three certificates given out and six trophies.

Winners were:

  •  Royal Court – Public Buildings
  •  Moore’s Hotel – Hotels
  •  Thomas De la Rue – Public Houses
  •  States of Guernsey Harbour – Commercial Properties
  •  Credit Suisse – Banks
  •  Mr Richard Ellis– Private Gardens

During the event, Jacquie thanked all those who’d entered this year’s competition, Katina for all her long service to Floral as well as the judges for their time and support. Jacquie also expressed the Douzaines’ thanks to the BIG PLAN contractors, Colin Falla, Nigel Clarke& Dave Corriera (SWD) for the stunning floral exhibits around our town. She reminded everyone that the BIG PLAN had five miles of irrigation pipes with 40 controllers which were watering 1,000 baskets and planters.

The Irrigation system is the fundamental base of the floral exhibits in St Peter Port, without irrigation, no water and therefore no flowers. Recently there had been some issues with workmen disrupting the water supply, either by turning off taps, cutting through pipes or just removing plants/pipes to work on buildings. Extra checks were being made due to the extended spell of hot weather and it asked that people contact the office on 720014 if they see any problems, such as wilting/dead plants.

Jacquie thanked everyone for attending the presentation and said she hoped to see them all again next year and many others. She asked that everyone pass the word around for the 2019 competition.
