New waste and recycling collections - starting on 2nd September

Thu 16 Aug 2018

It's been in the media and you may have just received the literature pack from the States of Guernsey. The new collection arrangements are starting on the 2nd September, so please be prepared. Here is a little more information from your Parish office.

Collection calendar
The literature pack you should have just received gives you all the information you need to put out the right waste on the right day, but don't recycle or shred the envelope as that states the day of the week of your collection. Keep it all in a safe place.

All refuse and recycling is collected on one day only per week in your district. The system works on a fortnightly cycle.

Week 1 - Clear bag week *
Clear recycling bag (paper & cardboard)     glass      food waste

Week 2 - Blue bag week *
Blue recycling bag (tins, plastic, foil etc)      black sack     food waste

* refer to the Collections Calendar on your green "square wheel"

The only exception to this are the households that put waste out on Sundays, they will have a weekly black sack (residual waste) collection.

Caddies & Bags
You have been provided with a food caddy and weighted glass bag. Please put your house name on these, not your name. These should be put out alongside your recycling bag or black sack for emtying and then taken back in the next morning. If your caddy or glass bag goes missing, replacements are available by telephoning 231234.

Website
The best way to check when and what to put out is to look on the Refuse & Recycling tab on this website. Just enter part of your address or the postcode and your full calendar will be displayed. Bank holiday information is displayed on this page as well. Save this page as a favourite on your smartphone, tablet or computer.

Refuse Rates
The system for charging Refuse Rates has not changed in 2018, but next year the Parish Refuse Rate will be a fixed fee or standing charge per household. This is likely to be in the region of £83.00 and will be billed with the Owners Rate in April or May 2019. The Parish refuse charge covers the collection of all four streams of waste from every home.
The States of Guernsey will be making a standing charge of £85.00 and the sticker price of £2.50 per black sack for the processing and export of waste, again these charges will not be introduced until 2019.

Further questions
Any queries or comments should be directed to the SoG Trading Assets on 231234 (or email recycle@gov.gg) or your Parish office on 720014 (or email constables@stppcons.com). Please bear in mind that in the run-up to the 2nd September and for the first few weeks afterwards, our phones may be very busy.
